In the morning I realise that although rudimentary Japanese is well understood, my explosive reply is probably not.

Anyway, the friendliness, helpfulness and curiosity of the Japanese, as well as lots of shared laughter, get me on the right buses further south.

The bus journey ends in a car park in front of a tunnel. I have to walk the last kilometre, which is my first. Ah, this is the end of Japan.

Quite a lot of water here. In the remaining 3 hours, I sprint the 12 kilometres out of the nature park.
On the way, hordes of monkeys and wild boars maraud in the impenetrable jungle; some grannies too!
Everyone is looking for the first spring plants. A nightingale sings cautiously.
Just as it gets dark, my tent is pitched right on the beach. I’ve made it!
